2025 Yamaha MT-09 Shift (Y-AMT)

Key Features:

  • Engine: 888cc
  • Y-AMT Overview: Switching between AT and MT: Y-AMT offers an MT that allows riders to dictate shifts by hand and also an AT that carries out gear changes automatically. The active shifting possible in the MT provides a more spirited and involved riding experience, while the AT leaves the work up to the electronics for easier, more laid-back riding that boosts overall comfort. In addition, two shift programs can be selected while in AT: D and D+. D mode is more for calmer riding on urban streets or highways, while D+ mode is intended for twisties where riders want to enjoy more responsive acceleration and deceleration. Having two modes allows the rider to select the kind of shifting they want for the riding environment or per their personal preference.
  • Shift Levers: When MT is selected, shifting up or down is performed by using the shift levers located on the left handlebar. This lever ensure the rider can use them with precision while wearing gloves. The levers can also be used easily and naturally while maintaining a grip on the handlebars.

There are two points for input most of the time: a plus lever that controls upshifts and a minus lever that controls downshifts. However, when performing harder riding, the plus lever can be pulled to shift up and pushed to shift down with the index finger, which removes the need for the rider to take their thumb off the handlebar grip. Having both methods available offers riders the freedom to choose shifting that suits their preference.

  • Handlebar Position: The handlebars moved 1.5mm backward and 34.4mm lower, 2.1° sharper rise; 3.3° wider sweep
  • Footpeg Position: 9.5mm higher, 30.6 mm rearward, 3mm inward
  • Seat: In a change from the current model’s one-piece seat, the new model has separate rider and passenger seats. This has made them easier to set and remove for improved convenience and gives them a higher quality feel.
  • Mirrors: The mirrors have and all-new design with a larger visible area. The shape of the mirror surface was made as small as possible by slimming down the actual areas needed while maintaining functionality. In short, this new profile provides excellent rearward visibility while removing unnecessary areas.
  • Suspension and Tyres: The standard MT-09 features a fully adjustable inverted front fork with 41mm inner tubes and a monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound damping.

  • Smart Key System: The model features a Smart Key system in which the key does not need to be inserted to start the engine. Simply turning the bike’s main power switch turns it on and releases the handlebar steering lock. The system also has a lock/unlock function for the fuel tank cap that offers excellent convenience in situations. This system ensures convenience in starting the bike or opening the fuel tank cap in darker areas.
  • Handlebar switches: To offer increased usability for the MT-09’s feature-packed interface, new integrated handlebar switches are adopted. It employs Flexible Printed Circuits, which allow the switches to handle a wide range of functions while retaining, the same amount of space as the outgoing model.
  • Newly designed compact LED headlights: The new MT-09’s headlight have been completely redesigned compared to the current model’s bi-functional LED headlights, and use a thin, compact, and small-diameter lens module.
  • Newly designed taillight shape: With a newly designed shape and lens colour layout, the bike’s rear end receives a fully updated look. The top and bottom rows are separated to align with the new outer lens shape. The upper part of the lens is red while the bottom has a smoked finish to give the whole taillight a slimmer look.
  • New Turn Signal Functions: In addition to the standard left/right indicators and hazard lights, three new features are added; 1) Three-flash or continues flash, 2) Emergency braking, 3)Auto-cancelling.
  • 5-Inch TFT Display: The model receives a new 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument display. The speedometer is flanked by the tachometer, which display rpm with digital bars. The panel can also display a fuel gauge, average fuel consumption, coolant temp, ambient temp, a gearshift indicator, and more. Each can be switched between or selected by using the handlebar switches.
  • Yamaha Ride Control (YRC): The feature allows riders to select engine power characteristics and the degree of intervention of various electronic rider aids based on their personal preference of on road conditions. In addition to the three presets (SPORT/STREET/RAIN), there are two customizable modes (CUSTOM1/CUSTOM2).
  • Engine Modes and rider aids breakdown: Power Delivery Mode (PWR), Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS), Lift Control System (LIF), 3rd-generation quickshifter system, Brake Control (BC), Back-slip regulator (BSR), Cruise Control System.
  • Connectivity-ready full-colour 5-inch TFT display: The new model is equipped with a 5-inch full-color TFT instrument display that can be connected to a smartphone via the dedicated Y-Connect app.
